Dance of Identity: Overcoming Mistaken Identity

The big question: Who am I?

This deep and philosophical question has been asked throughout history. Poets, philosophers, and psychologists have contemplated this question for days, weeks, and even years. Behind this question lie deeper questions such as

  • Am I really loved?
  • What is my significance?
  • Who am I?
  • Where do I belong?

Because we are unique and complex our identity can be more unclear, cloudy, or uncer-tain. It is similar to a puzzle. There are many pieces that define who we are, and the parts are intercon- nected to each other. Often puzzle pieces share similar colors just like our story. Different aspects of our life “color” other parts. Our pieces are

  • Associations
  • Attitudes
  • Culture
  • Education
  • Experiences
  • Family
  • Interests
  • Perceptions
  • Personality
  • Quirks
  • Relationships
  • Strengths
  • Weaknesses

While these pieces of our identity are important and influential, they are external. They can change through time or circum- stances. Our identity becomes subject to change. The question of “Who am I?” is constantly in a fluid state. It seems there is no sure answer to this important question.
