For the Lord will be your confidence, firm and strong,
And will keep your foot from being caught [in a trap]. Prov. 26:3
As born again believers, we should not our confidence in education, success, knowledge, talents, abilities, accomplishments or the opinion of others. Prov. 26:3 tells us we need to put our confidence in the Lord and in him only.
It is easy to get puffed up and put confidence in external things mentioned earlier. ” I can do this” or ” I did that”. That is pride and God tells us it will lead to our downfall. Prov. 16:18. Pride means haughtiness and arrogance.
The more accomplished, skilled or proficient we become, the more we need to remain humble and recognize it is through Christ alone we can do anything.
In Mark 7:21-22, thirteen inner vices are listed: evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride foolishness.
Our confidence in in the Lord who is the Giver of all talents, blessings, abilities and skill. If we keep Him as our confidence, He will keep our foot from being caught in a trap!
